Is my donation tax deductible?

Tree of Light is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and your donation is tax-deductible. To claim a donation as a deduction, please keep your email donation receipt as your official record. We send one to your email address after a successful completion of a donation.

Donation Fees

Online Payment Fees

A small Platform Fee will apply to each transaction on our website based on the campaign type:

• Donation Form - 1%
• Fundraising Page - 3%
• Events & SpiritQuests - 5%

Processing Fees

A standard Processing Fee is applied to all transactions in our online forms. This fee is charged by our payment processor (Stripe) and allows our funds to be securely deposited into our account, regardless of the payment method our donors choose. These fees are charged per transaction:

• 2.9% + 30¢ - Credit Cards & Digital Wallets (Venmo, Apple Pay, PayPal etc.)
• 1.9% + 30¢ - ACH

Paypal & Venmo Fees

• Paypal: 2.89% + 49¢ per donation
• Venmo: 3.49% + 49¢ per donation

Direct or Sustaining Donations

Later this year we will release new donation forms for the website for sustaining (monthly / annual) or direct CC donations that have zero (0%) additional fees - and only includes the base Processing Fees as explained above (2.9% + 30¢ for cc; or 1.9% + 30¢ for ACH). Until then, you can select Monthly or Yearly in our online donation forms.

OpenCollective Fees

• OpenCollective: 0%

For OpenCollective donations, Tree of Light pays a custom Stripe transaction cost of 2.2% + 30¢ for CC but donors does not pay a platform fee.
